Galleri Skippergården is housed in a dune farmstead dating from 1877 and has been home to artist couple Astrid Hygom and Leif Horndrup Jacobsen for 26 years, who are committed to preserving Denmark's cultural heritage. This year, the gallery is also exhibiting ceramics by Line Selmer Olsen and woodturning by Verner Nielsen.
The nature and surroundings of the farm, the North Sea, the beach, the small landing places in the reed forests along the fjord and Hvide Sande Harbour feature in both Astrid's acrylic paintings and copperplate engravings and Leif's watercolours, but Esbjerg Harbour and the Wadden Sea also feature prominently in the exhibition.
Since 1987, Astrid Hygom has had separate exhibitions in public institutions and companies, as well as in museums and censored exhibitions in Denmark and abroad.
Line Selmer Olsen graduated from the sculpture programme at Aarhus Academy of Fine Arts in 2007 and has since participated in the censored exhibitions KS, KP, KE and Charlottenborg. Her unique works draw references to the elements of nature, the human organs and the metaphysical.
Leif Horndrup Jacobsen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1975 and exhibits watercolours from the local area and the beach, as well as croquis drawings.
Verner Nielsen displays functional art turned from many different types of wood.
Opening hours:
8th and 9th June, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
We are also open by appointment on tel. +45 24 64 94 22.
