Join us for Sankt Hans at Sluseøen and experience the good old Danish midsummer tradition the way it's meant to be:
- When: Tuesday 23 June 2026, from 6:15 pm — the bonfire is lit at 7:00 pm
- Where: Sluseøen, Hvide Sande Harbour
- Price: Free admission
- Organizer: hvidesande.by
Programme for the evening:
- 6:15 pm: Karl Kristian plays his first set
- 6:50 pm: Bonfire speech by harbour director Mogens Pedersen
- 7:00 pm: The bonfire is lit — followed by the communal singing of the Danish midsummer song
- 7:10 pm: Karl Kristian plays his second set
The tradition is kept alive in full: the symbolic straw witch on the fire, the bonfire speech before the flames take hold, and everyone joining in the midsummer song once the fire is burning — everything that belongs to the shortest night of the year.
The evening's music comes from Karl Kristian, born and raised in Hvide Sande and now returning to his hometown to spread good vibes on the quayside. He's also the one leading the singing when the midsummer song rises over the harbour basin.
The evening is especially suited to adults who want to take it all in at their own pace — but everyone is welcome, of course. The town's restaurants and eateries are open, so there's plenty of opportunity to eat before or after — and perhaps enjoy a cold drink while the flames climb into the sky above the harbour.
