Benthe Ibsen is a visual artist and tapestry weaver based in Denmark. Since her debut in 2015, she has exhibited her gobelins at galleries and art associations across Denmark and abroad, and over 14 years at the loom she has developed a distinctive artistic voice.
Her work is a celebration of the natural landscape – especially the wide, atmospheric scenery of west Jutland – as well as the places she encounters on travels further afield. Colour mixing is her primary passion, and through a broad range of yarns – wool, wool bouclé, linen and silk – she builds up layers of texture and depth that capture the endlessly shifting light and colour of the natural world. She works from a computer-edited photograph placed behind the warp, giving the tapestry room to grow freely.
No machines, no assembly line. Heart first, then head, then the working hand. She gives each piece a title and leaves the rest to you. Come by and watch a gobelin come to life on the old harbour in Hvide Sande.
